Storyline

"Olomo Kan" is a powerful 2026 Yoruba-language drama that delves into the psychological weight of maternal trauma and obsessive love. The film follows a mother whose past scars dictate her present actions. After losing her first child and undergoing a hysterectomy, Eyitayo channels all her fear and grief into her only surviving son, Pelumi. Her devotion quickly crosses into toxic territory as she overprotects, overfeeds, and micromanages every aspect of his life, believing constant control is the only way to keep him safe. The strain soon fractures her family. Relatives and her husband warn that her behavior is harming Pelumi, but Eyitayo dismisses their concerns as interference. When Pelumi suddenly collapses from severe indigestion and emotional stress, doctors confirm that his physical and mental health are deteriorating under her suffocating care. The crisis forces Eyitayo’s husband to file for divorce, leaving her isolated and desperate. Through revealing flashbacks, the film unpacks the root of her obsession: the devastating grief of lost motherhood and the fear of being left completely alone. In the end, Eyitayo must confront the harsh reality that her love has become a cage. "Olomo Kan" is a poignant exploration of trauma, the dangers of unchecked control, and the painful journey toward healing. It reminds viewers that true protection requires trust, not possession, and that sometimes letting go is the greatest act of love.
