Married For The Weekend

Six months after a heated confrontation drives Demilade out of their home Tomi holds to a disciplined routine of prayer green juices and caring for her ailing father. Her father announces a weekend visit for medical checkups and Tomi convinces Demilade to move back in and pretend they are still happily married so his hypertension is not triggered. Demilade agrees but he demands a seventy five twenty five split of their four hundred fifty million naira house for the charade. His girlfriend Ese knows nothing of the arrangement. The father arrives delighted by the apparent harmony and the trio shares meals and morning walks though tension simmers beneath the surface. As the weekend progresses Demilade's lawyer Paul pressures him to finalize the alimony settlement. Ese grows suspicious of his absence and discovers he stayed with Tomi. Confronted Demilade admits he pretended to be married to secure Tomi's signature on the divorce papers so he could be free to marry Ese. Ese feels betrayed and relegated to a backup plan so she ends their relationship. Tomi's father stumbles upon the divorce papers and realizes the deception then suffers an emotional collapse and declares he is doomed before packing to leave with Demilade and leaves Tomi alone with her guilt. Alone in the dining room Demilade returns to Tomi and delivers a raw confession. He left not because he stopped loving her but because he felt drowned by the intensity of her caregiving and his own inadequacy. He admits he should have fought for their marriage instead of walking away listing the mundane rituals he misses her snoring her five a m wake ups green juice and diet. Dismissing the divorce papers as meaningless he asks for her back entirely and Tomi agrees and they share a kiss that seals their reconciliation. Three months later the couple adjusts to a new normal. Later they found out they are pregnant.
