Love & Red Flag

Mira and Charles share a deeply affectionate but growing uncertain bond that her father meets with open skepticism when he questions the young man's long-term plans and sternly warns his daughter that at twenty-nine she needs a clear path to marriage. Charles eventually proposes yet her father firmly remains unmoved by the absence of a traditional kneeling gesture and Mira patiently seeks counsel from her close friend Chuks on how to handle Charles's reluctance to commit. The dynamic steadily shifts when Charles firmly forbids Mira from speaking with a longtime business associate and demands she spend the night against her father's household rules. He insists daily she prepare elaborate meals after exhausting workdays and flatly refuses her access to his phone. The control quickly erupts into violence when Charles strikes Mira and a security guard calls the police only for Charles to turn on the guard and watch him arrested while Mira is left injured and bandaged. She clearly recognizes the pattern and ends the relationship even as Charles persistently attempts reconciliation. With Charles gone Mira's father introduces a new suitor named Jooks and offers him a substantial loan to demonstrate his ability to provide within six months. Jooks proposes and Mira accepts but he departs for China to pursue the business venture that the loan was meant to fund. Months pass with no communication from Jooks and Mira grows despondent in the silence that stretches between them. Unexpectedly Chuks returns from a successful overseas trip and surprises Mira on her birthday with a house titled in her name and a declaration of love that he has carried across distance. Chuks kneels and proposes to Mira who accepts tearfully as the weight of the moment settles over them. Her father witnesses the moment and offers a heartfelt prayer blessing their union with words that carry the weight of his earlier doubts. The three embrace as the film closes on their engagement.
