How We Got Here

Onome, a single mother, works as a maid for Adele and Edafe, a wealthy couple. Her son Brume is sent home from school for unpaid fees, and Adele constantly belittles her, forbidding her from bringing the child to the house. Edafe, however, begins buying Brume gifts and secretly bonding with him, which Onome resists, fearing the consequences. When Edafe takes Brume out without her permission, Onome quits abruptly and disappears with her son. Edafe searches for days, and Adele discovers his past: Onome is his ex-girlfriend and Brume is his biological son, whom he abandoned years ago to marry Adele for status. Adele confronts Onome, offering money to give up custody, but Onome refuses, recounting years of suffering. In a street confrontation, Onome reveals Edafe's betrayal, curses him, and demands he leave. Adele, humiliated, argues with a friend about her role in breaking up the family. Onome rejects all bribes and declares Edafe dead to them. Edafe eventually meets Onome at a restaurant, where she expresses peace and a desire for Brume's best. How We Got Here ends with a fragile reconciliation: Edafe visits Onome and Brume at their home, playing with the boy while Onome watches from a distance, signaling a new beginning for the family.
