Grace, a market woman, carries the weight of her household while her husband Chris contributes nothing but cruelty. He steals from her handbag, forbids her from working, and carries on with a debt collector named Angela. Her younger sister Selena, fierce and protective, physically throws Chris out and burns his belongings in the yard. Chris retaliates by hiring local thugs to assault Selena, leaving Grace devastated and angry. A neighbor, Ray, steps in to offer Selena a housekeeping job, and though his past includes financial ruin, he has recently reclaimed his wealth. As Selena recovers, Chris—now humiliated and jobless—takes work at a pure water factory and begs Selena to help him win Grace back. Selena warns him she will harm him if he backslides, then pleads with Grace to give him one more chance. Chris confesses his infidelity, and Grace, worn down by loneliness, agrees to reconcile. Selena moves in with Ray, finally in a happy relationship, while Grace and Chris embrace, with Chris vowing never to return to his old ways. The sisters find peace, but the scars of past violence linger beneath the surface.
