Grieving her father, Havilah drinks and drives, nearly hitting Kenneth and orphaned Rachel. She fires her security guard and prepares to leave her home, but her uncle Augustus confronts her over the estate. She threatens legal action. Later, she finds Kenneth and Rachel have broken into her house; after initial fury, she feeds them and offers money, then asks them to go. She reconnects with them for dinner. Kenneth reveals his past: a drug addict, homeless after a car accident that left his sister in a coma; his family blames him, though he was sober. Rachel is his sister's daughter. Havilah distances herself due to his addiction, but after finding Rachel alone, she takes both in. Kenneth struggles with cravings; his father and stepmother humiliate him publicly. Havilah insists he enter rehab. He agrees, then relapses and vanishes briefly, causing distress. He returns clean, and they form a makeshift family. Kenneth builds a tech prototype for Havilah's company. At the presentation, Kenneth's father—a board member—denounces him as a drug addict. Havilah fiercely defends Kenneth, revealing he was not high during the accident and accusing the family of unfair blame. Kenneth's brother Dennis, who had been sending Havilah gifts, confronts him. Later, Kenneth's father seeks the truth, and Kenneth forgives him but severs ties. Havilah, Kenneth, and Rachel continue living together; Havilah expresses her love and commitment. The film ends on a hopeful note with the three sharing a meal, and Havilah records a video to her deceased family, introducing Kenneth and Rachel as her new family.
