Each morning, wealthy Oliver lavishes his wife Nanya with gifts and praise; in turn, Nanya enjoys a life of luxury with her friend Sophie, boasting about her 'soft life' and her husband's generosity while hoping to conceive a child to secure her position. Their bliss is shattered when Oliver's business partner, Martins, flees after using their company account to launder money, leaving Oliver to face arrest by the Financial Crime Unit. For Richer, For Poorer, the couple's assets are seized, forcing them to move in with Nanya's mother. Poverty strains the marriage as Nanya grows cold and resentful, refusing Oliver's advances and cutting off support. Though Oliver's friend Efe offers counsel, Nanya seizes control of remaining assets, humiliates Oliver publicly by refusing to pay a bill, and threatens violence. At home, her mother treats Oliver like a servant, berating him for eating their food, leaving Oliver weeping and praying for strength. Engaged in a secret affair with Jude, Nanya lets him replace Oliver as provider, even making Oliver sleep on the couch and offering him scraps, before presenting divorce papers and announcing her move to the U.S. with Jude. Oliver sits alone, devastated, but experiences a vivid dream where he is found innocent, his assets returned, and he evicts Nanya and her mother, watching Nanya hit by a car. Waking, he realizes it was a dream. He looks at a wedding photo and decides to test his wife and mother-in-law's loyalty by pretending financial ruin, to see if they will stand by him or reveal selfish intentions.
