Storyline

In Dust to Dust, a poor mother works hard in the fields with her three daughters. Tired of their bad life, she decides to sacrifice herself. With help from Madam Philo, she goes to a powerful male spiritualist. In a scary ritual at the burial ground, she lies in a coffin and he turns her into a bag full of US dollars with magic. But there is a bad condition: the daughters can use the money for only 15 years, then they will all die. The daughters Ebube, Nnemna and Olaedo wake up and see their mother is gone. They find a note telling Ebube to take care of her siblings. They ask a female spiritualist and then Madam Philo brings the bag and explains the ritual and the death curse. The sisters are shocked. One wants to keep the money because 15 years rich is better than always poor. But Ebube hates it as blood money. She takes the bag and runs away. She protects it with a gun and holds Madam Philo at gunpoint to reverse the spell. Madam Philo says only if all sisters reject the money together can the curse break. Ebube fights on. The deity appears as a glowing mask in the sky and punishes her with pain. She buries the bag in a banana plantation to stop spending. Uncle Kalu helps. They go back to the male spiritualist. He wants 10 percent of the money and gives instructions: bring the bag untouched, hold hands, chant words and hit a wooden idol at the shrine. They try but make a mistake. They did not take the money to him first. The ritual fails. Ebube becomes paralyzed from the waist down. The spiritualist laughs at them. The family ends in despair: mother is gone forever, the curse stays, and Ebube is crippled for life.
