Biography

Lizzygold Onuwaje is Nollywood actress with years of experience in the industry. She is from Itsekiri Warri Delta State. She is an Ex miss Delta. She owns lizzygold TV.

EARLY LIFE

Elizabeth Onuwaje was born on 16 October 1987 in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria, into a close-knit Itsekiri family. She spent her formative years in Warri, a vibrant city known for its rich cultural heritage and diverse population. Lizzy is the only daughter amongst five siblings. She grew up with three brothers and one sister in a household that valued education and moral uprightness. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Onuwaje, raised their children with strong Christian values. Her mother, described as a devout Anglican and evangelist, played a significant role in shaping Lizzy’s character and values. Lizzy Gold comes from the Itsekiri ethnic group, one of the prominent communities in Delta State. The Itsekiri people are known for their rich cultural traditions, royal heritage, and strong sense of community. From a young age, Lizzy harboured a deep passion for the arts, particularly acting. She aspired to become a celebrity and dreamed of seeing herself on television screens. Lizzy Gold completed both her primary and secondary education in Warri, Delta State. She attended local schools in her hometown, where she developed her academic foundation whilst nurturing her interest in the performing arts. During her school years, Lizzy participated in various cultural activities, drama performances, and public speaking events. After completing secondary school, Lizzy gained admission to Delta State University (DELSU) in Abraka, where she studied Information Science and graduated with a bachelor’s degree. In 2004, she participated in the Miss DELSU Beauty Pageant and emerged as the second runner-up. After graduating from university, Lizzy enrolled in a three-month acting course at Emem Isong’s Royal Arts Academy in Lagos, obtaining a diploma in performing arts and becoming a certified professional actress.

CAREER

Before becoming a household name in Nollywood, Lizzy Gold made her mark in the beauty pageant world. In 2004, she participated in the Miss DELSU Beauty Pageant and became the second runner-up. Lizzy’s breakthrough in pageantry came in 2006 when she won the Miss Delta State beauty pageant. Following her success as Miss Delta State, Lizzy competed in the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) competition in 2007, where she emerged as the second runner-up. She also participated in Nigeria’s Most Beautiful Girls Contest in 2007, reaching the finals. After completing her acting training at Royal Arts Academy in 2012, Lizzy Gold officially entered the Nigerian film industry. Her early months in the industry were challenging as she wasn't getting paid for her work due to her face not being popular enough. After years of struggling without breakthrough or payment, Lizzy travelled to Asaba, Delta State, to learn film production from Uche Nancy. Lizzy developed a new strategy: she began producing her own films, taking both lead and supporting roles, but using someone else’s name as the executive producer. Her major breakthrough came with 'Princess Olivia' (2021), which became a massive hit on YouTube and other streaming platforms. Lizzy gained maximum fame in Nollywood after starring in two major films: 'Bubemi' and 'The Warri Girl'. One of Lizzy’s most impactful projects was 'Just A Night' (2017), a film she produced that addressed the serious issue of domestic violence. Since 2012, Lizzy has appeared in over 200 Nollywood films. After years of producing films under other people’s names, Lizzy eventually established her own company: Lizzy Gold Productions. Recognising the shift towards digital content consumption, Lizzy launched Lizzy Gold TV on YouTube.

PERSONAL LIFE

Lizzy Gold is a proud mother of two children: Rex (son, born in 2015 at a private hospital in South Africa) and Real (daughter, born on 4 December 2019). She is a single mother and has been remarkably open about her choice to remain unmarried to her children’s father due to personal reasons, stating she believes marriage requires the right circumstances and readiness. She has never publicly disclosed the identity of her children’s father. Lizzy has shared insights into her relationship philosophy, revealing she has developed a 'secret strategy' to ensure no man ever breaks her heart, which appears to involve maintaining emotional independence, not rushing into commitments, prioritising her children and career, setting clear boundaries in relationships, and learning from past experiences. Despite her mother’s initial opposition to her acting career, Lizzy maintains a close relationship with her family.
