Dear Miss Genevieve

In Dear Miss Genevieve, Genevieve works as a dedicated primary school teacher. One evening she finds her student Adiel abandoned on the school steps and drives him to her father's office in Ikoyi to confront his neglect. At home her mother, weakened by illness, begs Genevieve to quit because hospital bills are piling up, but Genevieve refuses because the income keeps them afloat. At school she administers a test and notices Zina finish remarkably fast with perfect marks, so she brings the girl's gift to Zina's father Oli, a businessman rarely seeing his daughter. Oli is impressed by Genevieve's insight and begins to rely on her as tutor and confidante, opening up about his wife's death, which draws Genevieve closer. She spends an evening at his home where they share wine and kiss, though she initially pulls away and cites complications. The next morning Oli instructs his lawyer to file a cross-petition, revealing he is still legally married, and calls Genevieve to ask her on a proper date. As Genevieve's mother deteriorates, they begin a romance that sparks tearful confrontations about Genevieve's own mortality. Jackie, Zina's biological mother, returns after a year's absence, alive and furious, exposing Oli's lie about her death. At Oli's house a volatile confrontation erupts with his current girlfriend Jennifer present. Jackie denounces Oli for making her a mistress in her own life, and Oli pleads that he was broken and the divorce was unfinished. Jackie storms out and later clashes with her new partner Luke over her resentment toward motherhood and her suspicion that Genevieve has replaced her. Zina uses her photographic memory to track Genevieve to her home and confronts her about her absence from school and tutoring. Genevieve, overwhelmed, reveals she has critical kidney failure and embraces Zina as they both weep. Oli sits in a clinic waiting room and prays fervently for Genevieve.
