Eight years into their marriage, Ezeagu and Adaora have no child, and his mother’s pressure sharpens into a one-month ultimatum after doctors give Adaora only a twenty percent chance of conceiving. Desperate to keep her home intact, Adaora begs her younger sister Eliza to carry Ezeagu’s baby—a bargain that becomes the Cost Of Trust—and after a long resistance Ezeagu gives in, sleeping with Eliza at a hotel. When Eliza announces her pregnancy, the couple celebrates, but the joy curdles as Ezeagu starts cooking for Eliza and showering her with attention, leaving Adaora to watch her own sacrifice backfire. Ezeagu’s mother then brings a woman called Nkeiru into the house as a replacement wife, but Ezeagu throws her out, and soon Eliza’s boyfriend Ebuka appears at the gate demanding money and threatening to expose the arrangement while the security guard watches from the shadows. That mounting pressure breaks open when Ezeagu searches for his phone and finds a calabash stuffed with a red charm under the bed; the moment he smashes it, a strange heaviness lifts, and the security guard hands over a recorded phone call that reveals Eliza and Ebuka plotting to fake the pregnancy and bleed him dry with dark charms. Confronted with the evidence, Eliza breaks down and admits the plot was her boyfriend’s idea, and Ezeagu and Adaora, gutted by her betrayal, order her from the house. In the aftermath, Ezeagu goes looking for Adaora, who had been driven off during their fights, and she delivers a truth that flips everything: she is actually pregnant, confirmed at the hospital, and she tells her husband he is going to be a father. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Ezeagu thanks God for the miracle, and the security guard, reflecting on all he has witnessed, advises everyone never to betray the hands that fed them. The couple looks ahead to a new beginning, carrying the weight of the trust they nearly lost.
