Before The Wedding

Ubong proposes to Ogechi after her graduation, both excited but fearing their families' deep-seated prejudices—Ogechi's Igbo father despises Calabar people because his wife cheated with a Calabar man, while Ubong's Calabar mother distrusts Igbos after her own painful marriage. When the couple seeks their parents' blessings, each reacts with hostility: Ogechi's father forbids the marriage and insults Calabar people, and Ubong's mother accuses Ogechi of being a gold digger. A joint family breakfast intended to reconcile the parents becomes a disaster, with insults traded and Ogechi's father storming out. Ogechi later visits Ubong's mother alone to plead for acceptance but is humiliated and thrown out, leading to a painful argument where Ubong calls her a child, and the couple breaks up, with Ogechi moving out. Devastated, Ubong cannot reach Ogechi. Ogechi's father, witnessing his daughter's suffering, realizes he has been projecting his own betrayal trauma onto her. He visits Ubong, gives his consent, and urges him to find Ogechi. Ubong locates her and apologizes, but Ogechi insists they still need his mother's approval. Ubong's mother, after reflecting on her actions and the threat of losing her son, arrives and offers her blessings, apologizing for her behavior. With both parents' approval, the couple reunites and plans a wedding. The wedding ceremony becomes a joyful celebration that brings the two families together: Ogechi's father gives a heartfelt blessing, and Ubong's mother welcomes Ogechi. The couple marries in a traditional ceremony, with both families and friends celebrating the union.
