Bad Faith

In Bad Faith Vivian suffers from insomnia and chest pains that no doctor can explain. She lives in a modern Lagos home with her young son Chidera, her watchful mother, a live-in maid named Osato, and a family friend called Sato. The household rhythm fractures when Vivian's estranged husband Nathan arrives unannounced and overrides Sato's dietary choices for Chidera. Over a strained dinner Vivian confronts Nathan about his past betrayals and he apologizes insisting he wants to rebuild trust for their son's sake. Vivian's mother orders full-body checkups for everyone and Chidera jokes that Vivian might be pregnant. Seeking distraction Vivian dines with an acquaintance named Shola and the evening escalates to whiskey in his bedroom where she covertly searches his belongings and finds a suspicious red garment. Medical tests return clean with no toxins in her food or blood so her doctor suggests the poison may originate from water or cosmetics or her environment. Vivian's mother monitors hidden security cameras via tablet and observes Osato behaving oddly in the kitchen. Vivian's mother storms the kitchen demanding to know what Osato added to the pot and Osato insists it is only black pepper. Later Vivian catches Chidera watching the security footage on her tablet and extracts a promise of silence forbidding him from telling Auntie Osato. Osato bonds with Chidera over games and casually reveals the house is under camera surveillance. Vivian's world tilts when a video arrives on her phone showing Nathan inside Osato's room while she wears only a towel. Devastated Vivian confides in a friend declaring she no longer cares about Nathan's actions but feels betrayed by Osato she treated like family. She confronts Nathan violently accusing him of sleeping with the maid in her home and he denies it claiming he was invited over while she was away. Vivian then corners Osato in the bedroom and reveals that her doctor believes she is being drugged.
