Storyline

Amanda’s life with Alex, a wealthy media personality, is the volatile heart of As We Are—a prison of public and private humiliations where he mocks her appearance, interrupts her, and once grabs her throat in a fit of anger. She confesses to her friend Ejuru that she still loves him, hoping for change even as the abuse tightens its grip. When Alex’s brother David arrives, his concern cracks the silence, confronting Alex about the treatment only to be dismissed. Sensing a sliver of support, Amanda starts pushing back with small rebellions: refusing makeup and making a sarcastic jab at his fashion sense, shocking Alex into realizing she won’t be crushed so easily. Alex retaliates by locking her out of their bedroom, his control spiraling. The breaking point erupts when Amanda openly humiliates him in front of their maid and brother, and Alex’s fury leads to a cold promise: divorce papers are coming. Devastation crashes over Amanda as her plan to jolt him into understanding backfires spectacularly. That night, David reveals a buried secret—their parents’ marriage, which Alex idolized, was a facade where their mother silently wept through endless disrespect. The revelation shakes Alex to his core, forcing him to see the poison he has inherited. Morning light brings a humbled Alex, his apology raw and unpracticed, admitting his wrongs and vowing a new path of respect. Amanda’s forgiveness cracks open a fragile hope, their shared acknowledgment of mistakes binding them closer. They extend their remorse to Oyi, the maid caught in the storm, before Amanda reveals the life growing inside her—a pregnancy that reshapes their future. Together, they post on their social media page, ‘Couple Goals with the Attas,’ not as a polished illusion but as the flawed, real people they’ve chosen to become.
