A Special Kind Of Love

Nelson's homecoming from theology school is overshadowed by a night of folly arranged by his friend Ben, who drags him to a bar and sets him up with a prostitute named Lucy. Drunk and disoriented, Nelson sleeps with her and later remembers nothing. Months after that lapse, Lucy appears at the door of Pastor Mattia, Nelson's father, carrying a pregnancy she claims belongs to Nelson. The pastor erupts in rage, insults Lucy, and offers her a bribe to abort the child, but she refuses. Nelson, wracked by guilt, admits his mistake and vows to take responsibility, though he cannot muster love for the woman he barely knows. Lucy gives birth to a son, then leaves the pastor's home to raise the child alone from a small kiosk she starts. Nelson, haunted by his own conscience and drawn to Lucy's strength, tracks her down and confesses he wants to be part of their lives. Despite his father's thunderous opposition, Nelson declares his love for Lucy and asks her to marry him. Lucy initially rebuffs him, believing he acts out of pity, but after a friend's encouragement she accepts his proposal. Pastor Mattia disowns his son when Nelson brings Lucy home, forcing the young couple to leave the house. They find shelter and begin to build a life, but the weight of the pastor's rejection presses on them. A fellow church member, Pastor James, confronts Mattia, urging him to practice the forgiveness he preaches. Moved by the counsel, Pastor Mattia calls Nelson and Lucy back, welcomes them, and agrees to plan a church wedding. Nelson decides to split his time between pastoral duties and a business to support his new family. The film closes with Nelson and Lucy exchanging vows of love and commitment, their eyes fixed on a future together, the pastor's blessing finally secured. No longer strangers bound by a mistake, they step forward as partners, embracing the complicated but real affection that grew from that unwanted beginning.
