A Mother's Fear

The film opens with a tense standoff between Efe and her mother Rosetta, who interrogates Efe about her whereabouts. Rosetta's paranoia and volatile relationship with Edward, a man who tries to mentor Efe, create a toxic home. Edward provides food and school supplies when Rosetta neglects Efe. As arguments escalate, Rosetta reveals to Edward that she is HIV positive, a result of past sexual abuse. The home becomes increasingly dire; Efe faces isolation and hunger. Rosetta collapses outside, leading to medical concerns. Tensions peak when police arrive to arrest Edward. After his removal, Efe and Rosetta begin to reconcile, sharing a moment of connection and playing a game together. In 'Unspecified Title', the slow healing starts as they navigate life without Edward's toxic influence.
