In A Christmas Proposal, Anaya Kumalo begins working from home for a formidable matriarch in a modern Nigerian household. The matriarch's adult children orbit the house: Ziora, sharp-tongued and skeptical, and Dumeje, who uses a wheelchair following an accident. The mother pressures Ziora about her own love life while quietly orchestrating a match between Dumeje and Anaya. She arranges a monthly payment to Anaya through Ziora to secure the relationship. Anaya, unaware of the arrangement, bonds with Dumeje over shared vulnerability and late-night work sessions. Dumeje's father and mother watch with hopeful anticipation. As their connection deepens into genuine affection, Ziora, struggling with a failing business, diverts the money meant for Anaya. When Anaya becomes pregnant, Dumeje discovers the original payment plan and, feeling betrayed and humiliated, lashes out. He publicly accuses Anaya of being a paid companion and demands she be searched for stolen items. The confrontation shatters the family's fragile peace. Anaya is cast out and Dumeje retreats into bitter isolation while the matriarch is left to manage the fallout. Ziora's guilt eventually drives her to confess the theft. She reveals Anaya never received a kobo and had fallen in love sincerely. The revelation forces a reckoning. Dumeje's father, chastened, confronts his son's cruelty. The matriarch visits Anaya and her mother, embracing the unborn grandchild and offering support. Dumeje, humbled, apologizes to his parents for his disrespect and begins a quiet campaign to win Anaya back. She initially resists, guarding her heart and insisting on co-parenting only. Dumeje's persistence, coupled with a dream his mother had about their reunion, softens her. He retrieves a new engagement ring, acknowledging his past failure, and proposes again on a clean slate, vowing never to leave her again. Anaya accepts and the family erupts in joyous chaos.
