Win Or Lose

Zino is a man made of money and meanness. He berates his security guard Nedu for singing at dawn, mocks his friend Pascal's invitation, and kicks Cynthia out of his bed before breakfast. In his office, he sneers at a colleague's laughter. Then he sees Marie, a waitress at his restaurant, smiling for no reason and for little pay. He buys her heels that do not fit, forces her to stand hours holding his coat, and pays to have her fired. But she keeps smiling. She even helps a homeless woman in an alley. His sister Sarah scolds him; Pascal teases him. Zino cannot let go. When Marie is jailed after a scuffle, he bails her out and offers an apology. He asks for a walk, but she demands respect and a genuine request. He gives it. During the walk, she tells him happiness is not in his pockets. He offers her a job as logistics manager; she refuses at first, afraid of his temper, but her manager and his quiet changes persuade her. Zino, now infatuated, rehearses a love confession in his mirror and is caught by Marie. She teases him, then lets him kiss her. The shift is complete. He rehires Nedu, treats his maids with kindness, and smiles. He tells Marie he was adopted, that his foster father's bitterness became his own. She teaches him to smile. In the end, they drive away together. Zino's voice floats over the credits: 'Life is beautiful. Life is sweet. You owe it to yourself.'
