Storyline

Prince Ifeme fled his wedding to Kosiso, confessing to his mother, the Queen Mother, that he loved his maid Olama. The Queen Mother confronted Olama, accusing her of scheming to enter the royal family. In 'The King's Heart Part 2', a man named Icheku arrived in the village, claiming to be the son of the deceased king and backing his claim with a beaded necklace. The elders accepted him after questioning, and Icheku asked for Olama's hand in marriage. Though conflicted about her enduring love for Ifeme, she agreed. Ifeme grew jealous of Icheku's rising power. Kosiso, Ifeme's wife, and the Queen Mother conspired to eliminate Icheku, having learned his singular vulnerability: he could not consume anything touched by fire. They boiled water, and Kosiso, posing as Icheku's wife, served it to him. Icheku fell ill and died. The elders launched an investigation and detected poison. Olama was initially accused because she had served him last, but Ifeme stepped forward, revealing he had overheard his mother and Kosiso plotting the murder. The village erupted in chaos. Kosiso was seized and buried alive; the Queen Mother was banished. Olama, now a widow, delivered a passionate speech condemning the killers and declaring that she would decide who ruled next. She refused revenge but ensured the Queen Mother would never see her son again. Ifeme approached Olama to renew their relationship, but she was bitter: she had sacrificed her womb to make Ifeme king, only for him to betray her. Olama stated that she alone would determine the next ruler and that she would crown her son Ikenna when he came of age. She rejected Ifeme's plea, telling him that the power to rule now lay with her and that if he could wait until her son was king, she might consider his offer.
