The Best Men

Ansa, a young woman working in Ibadan, loses her job after she slaps her boss, who has made unwanted advances toward her. In The Best Men, she ignores the warning of a friend and travels to Lagos to meet Dele, a man she has talked to online. When she arrives at his apartment, she mistakenly kisses his flatmate, Derek, and is mortified to learn that Dele is not there. Dele asks Derek to keep Ansa company while he is at work, and Derek reluctantly agrees, taking her around the city. Over the following days, they share meals and intimate moments, and Ansa grows close to Derek even as she remains conflicted about her relationship with Dele. A woman arrives at the apartment and claims to be Derek's girlfriend, and Ansa, hurt, prepares to leave. Derek explains that he and the woman were on a break. Meanwhile, Dele tells Derek that he plans to propose to Ansa, and Derek urges Ansa to be honest with Dele about her feelings. Ansa struggles to follow through, especially after Dele surprises her with gifts. A misunderstanding over a semi-nude photoshoot for Derek's photography work fuels Dele's suspicion, and he confronts Derek, accusing him of betraying their friendship. Derek admits that he has developed feelings for Ansa, though he insists it was never planned. The argument threatens their friendship, but Dele eventually gives his blessing because he sees how much Derek cares for Ansa. Ansa, overwhelmed by the mess she has created, decides to return home to Ibadan because she believes she has lost both men. Derek follows her there and meets her sister Mary, and after they finally talk, a goodbye kiss turns into something more. Ansa and Derek reconcile, and the film ends on a hopeful note as they embrace.
