Supa Modo
Supa Modo subverts the tragic "terminally ill child" trope by focusing heavily on agency, community, and joy. Rather than wallowing in grief, the village coordinates elaborate stunts—such as shopkeepers pretending to frozen in time when she gestures, or local tough guys allowing her to "defeat" them in mock fights. The narrative reaches a beautiful peak when the community decides to band together to shoot an actual superhero movie starring Jo.

Storyline
Supa Modo tells the story of Jo, a witty nine-year-old girl with a terminal illness whose ultimate dream is to become a superhero like the ones she watches in action movies. Hoping to make her remaining time joyful, her protective mother takes her back to their quiet, rural village of Maweni. Recognizing Jo’s fading health, her rebellious teenage sister, Mwix, convinces the entire village to come together and stage artificial scenarios to make Jo believe she actually possesses superpowers.
