One Big Lie

Eddie pulls an unconscious woman from a dark street assault and carries her to Gange Hospital where a doctor diagnoses severe amnesia. He brings her to his home and names her Anne, but his live‑in girlfriend Vanessa reacts with hostility because she is pregnant with their friend Andrew’s child. Vanessa’s confidante Olivia urges her to use the pregnancy to force a marriage and then arrange a miscarriage. Andrew visits the house and tells Eddie the baby is his, a revelation that shatters the fragile peace. Vanessa then poisons a meal intended for Anne, forcing Anne to eat it to prove her innocence. She collapses and is rushed back to the hospital. At the hospital Anne wakes and tells Eddie her real name is Ann, not Ego. She explains that she fled her aunt’s home to escape forced prostitution on the night he found her. The amnesia had protected her from the memory of that trauma, and Eddie pulls back, shaken by the layers of deceit surrounding him. Ann kneels in the bedroom, begs forgiveness for withholding her past, and explains her desperation. Eddie admits he would have helped had she been honest, and though he walks away the gesture softens his anger. Morning finds Ann serving breakfast and then packing her bag, believing she brings only pain to the house. Eddie stops her at the door and confesses he wants a chance to know her truly. They embrace and acknowledge mutual affection, and he carries her across the room laughing as the silent treatment breaks.
