Storyline
In Not Mine, Akin and Jennifer Omutasho go to a marital counselling session, and the therapist asks them to trace the source of their collapse. Akin accuses Jennifer of betraying their family. Jennifer admits she has lost the right to call herself by his name. The therapist tells them to travel back to the beginning, and the screen dissolves into a memory from their wedding night, when the couple exchange promises of endless love. These flashbacks show Akin as a devoted but exhausted provider whose job keeps pulling him away from home. Left alone for long stretches, Jennifer feels invisible and turns to online shopping. She spends 710,000 naira on two wigs during a sale, money Akin had allowed her to use, and a fierce argument erupts. They eventually make peace, but Jennifer's loneliness deepens after the birth of their daughter Tosin. She sinks into postpartum depression and cannot reach Akin, so she reconnects with Lawrence, a younger man from her past, and starts a casual fling. Akin remains unaware and keeps showering attention on their expanding family, and he plays with Tosin and the younger children. The truth comes out during the counselling sessions. Pressed about another man, Jennifer admits that she broke off the affair with Lawrence and has not seen him. Akin is blindsided, because the affair happened during the time he was working to give her everything. Later, with a DNA report in hand, he wakes Jennifer and demands to know why she lied whenever he asked if she had secrets. He declares that Tosin, Junior and Ife are all his children no matter what the DNA says. But he tells Jennifer he will not keep the marriage, and he plans to file for divorce and fight for sole custody. Jennifer collapses and says she is sorry, and she wishes she could undo it. Akin stays broken but determined to be the children's father, yet the marriage is over. The film warns against paternity fraud and the devastation it leaves on children.
