Heaven Is For Sinners

In Heaven Is For Sinners, Olawale lives in isolation with his dog Cookie after a car accident killed his wife Mercy and daughter Ifeoluwa. His editor Queenneth rejects his manuscript for lacking human authenticity and sends him to interview Christians. A food stall owner shuts him down, a pedestrian dismisses him, and a woman feigns absence. Meanwhile Pastor Gbenga and his wife Morayo prepare for a church committee meeting that could grant Gbenga his own congregation though grief over their daughter Oreoluwa strains their marriage. Olawale meets the couple at their home where a rigorous theological debate on free will and suffering ensues. Morayo counters his arguments with surgical precision leaving Olawale uncharacteristically silent. An unlikely friendship forms and Olawale becomes a frequent guest sharing meals and sharp conversation. Morayo confides her frustration with Gbenga's rigid joyless approach to intimacy because he refuses any unconventional acts framing them as sinful. Gbenga seeks counsel from Pastor David who challenges him to explore his wife's needs biblically. Morayo battles loneliness and temptation and visits Olawale during a power outage to use his laptop. She is caught reading erotic material and flees into fervent prayer. The tension peaks when Gbenga discovers Morayo at Olawale's apartment late at night. Accusations fly and trust shatters. Gbenga confronts his emotional withdrawal since Oreoluwa's death. Olawale collapses and receives an operable lung cancer diagnosis but refuses treatment believing he deserves to die. His condition deteriorates and Morayo and Gbenga unite to care for him bringing him to the hospital. In a weakened state Olawale accepts Christ at Gbenga's bedside invitation finding a reason to live in their stubborn love. He dies shortly after, his final words a gratitude for the grace they extended. The doctor acknowledges their presence gave him what medicine could not.
