In Love & Vanity, Mazi Okorfor is a wealthy supermarket owner in Lagos who carries an unspoken guilt over the death of his twin brother, Akachi, a tragedy he blames on his own youthful vanity. He meets Ukeme, a schoolteacher buying diapers in his store, and their easy banter reveals his down-to-earth charm. Mazi's flashy girlfriend, Zirachi, treats him with condescension and values only his money, yet Mazi remains blind to her true nature. Zirachi throws Ukeme and her sister out, and Mazi offers them shelter. Ukeme begins coaching him on proper etiquette and cooking so that he can improve for Zirachi's sake. The lessons draw them closer, and Mazi's friend Dafe warns him that Zirachi is using him. The warning leads to a bitter falling out between the two men. Zirachi continues to exploit Mazi, and Ukeme becomes the only person who sees his vulnerability and makes him feel at peace. The truth about Zirachi comes out when Mazi confronts her with new evidence of her manipulative deeds, and he exposes her betrayal. Later, he opens up to Ukeme about the accident that killed Akachi and confesses the guilt that has haunted him for years. Ukeme helps him see that his brother would not want him to suffer, and Mazi realizes that he has always loved her. He breaks free from his toxic relationship with Zirachi, and he declares his love to Ukeme. He apologizes for all he has put her through. Mazi lets go of the guilt and vanity that controlled his life and chooses a woman who loves him for who he truly is. Together he and Ukeme leave behind the old life, ready to start anew.
