In Falling For You Justin has spent years practicing law in the shadow of a mother who measures him against his successful half-siblings. She finds him wanting at every turn. When his longtime friend Felicity offers him a place at her father's firm he turns her down rather than accept charity. Across town Arike sells zobo from dawn to dusk to keep Bisola in school. Their building has been marked for demolition by Justin's firm. A violent confrontation with Bisola's teacher over unpaid fees leaves Arike shaken. Justin's car breaks down on their street one evening. Bisola presses a cool drink into his hand with a kindness that stops him cold. He follows her home and discovers the demolition he signed off on has stripped Arike of her livelihood. Armed robbers sweep through the neighborhood and Justin insists Arike and Bisola move into his apartment for safety. The decision brings his mother's classist fury down on all of them. His mother denigrates Arike as a street urchin and makes their stay unbearable. Felicity arrives unannounced and declares she and Justin are officially dating, then joins the mockery of Arike's lack of education and status. Humiliated and heartbroken, Arike packs to leave with Bisola. Justin explodes in a confrontation that has been building for a lifetime, telling his mother her cruelty made him who he is. He storms out and receives life-changing news at his firm: he has been made partner. He returns to find Arike still there, having come to return a forgotten document and overheard his raw argument with his mother.
