Closer

In Closer, Ikechukwu wakes in his Lagos home to missed calls from his mother. She arrives by road from Enugu for a wedding and breaks his quiet routine. She fusses over his weight and insists he eat while pressuring him about marriage because his friend Eddie is married. Ada stays in the staff quarters while her lodgings are renovated and works as a tailor on a short contract. The mother adopts Ada and urges her to stay longer while Adrian visits and observes the dynamic before she prepares to leave. Then Ikechukwu sprains his ankle playing football. Ada tends to him, and their bond deepens through playful banter and care. Adrian senses chemistry and attempts to set Ada up with his cousin who shares Ikechukwu's name. Ikechukwu intervenes and admits to Adrian that he loves Ada. Ada returns from a trip to Enugu and confronts Ikechukwu about emotional distance, so he confesses his fear of hurting her but acknowledges his feelings. Their friendship shifts toward romance after a vulnerable conversation where Ikechukwu defines their relationship and admits there is someone he likes. That someone is Ada herself. Ikechukwu orchestrates a romantic surprise in a dimly lit room and leads Ada to a table set with rose petals wine and a ring box. He delivers a heartfelt speech about healing and destiny and kneels and proposes to Adamah George. Overwhelmed she asks him to ask again. He formally requests her hand and she accepts, and they share a kiss and embrace sealing their engagement. The mother discovers the couple together and rejoices and insists Ada call her Mum. The family celebrates with food and dance and the mother proudly informs Adrian of the successful delivery of her constituency. Ada prepares to return to Enugu to inform her family and promises to come back for the wedding. The film ends with the couple cuddling on the couch looking at a phone together as the credits roll over a love song.
