Before Graduation

Set in a Nigerian secondary school, Before Graduation follows three friends with clashing values. Chioma is materialistic, boasting about the expensive gifts she gets from older, wealthy men. She convinces her friends that marrying for love is a scam. Aisha, a hijab-wearing Muslim, refuses early marriage and dreams of becoming a senator. Kemi is caught in the middle, often swayed by Chioma but more innocent. Trouble hits when Chioma’s strict Aunt Ngozi finds a pricey bag in her room. To escape punishment, Chioma lies that the bag belongs to Kemi. Aunt Ngozi drags her to Kemi’s house, where Kemi, under pressure, falsely says it is Aisha’s. The aunt immediately spots the lie because modest Aisha would never carry such a bag. She scolds Chioma harshly, warning her against wayward behaviour. Meanwhile, Aisha’s father, Alhaji Usman, proves his support for her dreams by politely rejecting a marriage proposal from his friend’s son, insisting Aisha must finish university first. The girls’ dynamics shift when a handsome youth corper, Mr. Ehis, arrives as a teacher. Chioma tries to seduce him, but he sternly turns her down and tells her to study. Kemi takes a softer approach, visiting his lodge with homemade jollof rice. Ehis falls for her sweetness, and they secretly start a relationship. When Kemi happily reveals she has won the teacher’s heart, Chioma is consumed with jealousy, setting the stage for deeper conflicts before graduation.
