Biography
EARLY LIFE
Fadekemi Olumide-Aluko's passion for storytelling was ingrained in her since childhood. She grew up in a family where elders would tell stories that haunted their imaginations and from which much wisdom was gleaned. Her father's vivid accounts of his experiences as a surgeon in the army during the Biafran War left an indelible mark. Her great-grandmother's narrow escape from being buried alive with her husband, the Obong of Calabar, and her Itsekiri grandmother's cultural wisdom and culinary skills (teaching her to cook Banga soup) also played pivotal roles in her upbringing.
CAREER
Fadekemi Olumide-Aluko is a multifaceted individual with accomplishments as a corporate lawyer specializing in legal mediation, particularly in the oil and gas field. Her expertise also extends to education, where she has been acclaimed for her insights into child and adult education, school governance, and educational leadership. She is also a talented poet and writer, with her poem 'The Night Nurse' shortlisted for the Hammond House UK International Poetry Prize in 2020. She has authored a children's creative writing revision handbook and an inspirational book for teenage girls. She began her acting journey at the age of 50, after being encouraged by Bola and Patrick Edwards of Proud African Roots production company. After initial reluctance, she auditioned for a production at Terra Kulture and was highly praised. Her persistence paid off in 2022 when Zuri24 Media offered her a role in an upcoming production. Since starring as Fatimah in 'Covenant,' Olumide-Aluko has participated in various television productions, including 'Refuge' and 'Flawsome' Season 2.
PERSONAL LIFE
Fadekemi Olumide-Aluko views her late-career start as an actor as a mission to positively influence women in society. She approaches fame with caution and introspection, understanding its potential for both peace and destruction. She emphasizes using fame to solve social problems and make a difference, rather than associating core identity with its flickering nature. She advocates for female celebrities to be mindful of their influence and use beauty for positive impact, disapproving of objectification. She is deeply concerned about women defining themselves solely through others' perspectives, encouraging self-discovery and self-expression. Her choice to wear dreadlocks is an ideological statement, representing the embrace of her African roots and a rejection of conforming to Western beauty standards, and she advocates for Nollywood to embrace diverse African hairstyles. Faith has been a driving force behind her journey and will continue to shape her future path.
