What You Don't See

Maria, a live-in maid in James’s household, undergoes an abdominal surgery that leaves her bedridden. Trusting no one more than her friend Kamsi from Enugu, she recommends Kamsi as a temporary replacement. James agrees, and Kamsi arrives to handle the chores. But their shared love of reading soon turns the arrangement into something deeper—a bond that Maria, from her sickbed, cannot see as what it is. In "What You Don't See", this blindness fuels her jealousy, and she begins treating Kamsi coldly, then openly accuses her of seducing their employer. Unable to bear the hostility, Kamsi packs her things and leaves without a word, disappearing into the city. James is devastated. He cannot reach Kamsi and mourns the loss of her presence. Meanwhile, Maria’s guilt grows as she learns from James that he was actually preparing to propose to another woman — not Kamsi. Realizing her jealousy was entirely baseless, Maria tracks Kamsi to a small café where she now works. There, Maria pleads for forgiveness, admitting she allowed assumptions to poison their friendship. Kamsi, calm and composed, explains that she merely used James’s support to further her education; she never saw him as a romantic interest. The friends reconcile over coffee, and Maria introduces James’s actual fiancée to Kamsi. James reaffirms his commitment to funding Kamsi’s studies, and the three share a laugh at the misunderstanding. Maria vows never to let suspicion ruin her bonds again, and the film closes with her watching Kamsi walk away, a quiet lesson in trust carried forward.
