Leverage

The movie starts with a happy birthday party for Lolade at her office. Her husband Bethel and colleagues surprise her with cake. She makes a quiet wish for a child. The next morning Bethel serves her breakfast in bed. They look like a loving couple. But trouble starts when the young maid Crystal cries on the floor. Bethel comforts her like a father. Lolade’s aunt Auntie T fires Crystal. She says Crystal is a distraction because Lolade cannot have a baby. Bethel gets very angry and defends Crystal. That night Lolade prepares a romantic dinner but Bethel is worried. Alone he whispers his secret. Crystal is actually his biological daughter from a past relationship fifteen years ago. He brought her home as a maid because he was afraid to tell Lolade the truth. Bethel brings Crystal back to the house. He buys her school uniform and takes her to school. Lolade sees this and becomes very angry. She shouts at Crystal to remove the uniform and go back to work. She says a maid will never go to school in her house. The house becomes tense. One day Crystal finds a photo of her late mother. She starts crying. Lolade sees her. When Bethel comes, the truth comes out. He admits Crystal is his daughter. Lolade feels betrayed. She tells Bethel to choose between her and the child. Bethel cries but chooses his daughter. Lolade packs her bags and leaves the house. After she goes, Bethel sits alone and cries. Crystal feels bad and wants to leave too. Bethel stops her and hugs her. He says it is not her fault. He promises to always protect her. They will face the future together. The movie Leverage ends with Bethel choosing his child over his marriage. It shows the pain of secrets and the strength of a father’s love.
