Storyline
It Blooms in June is a poignant coming-of-age drama set against the scenic, upscale backdrop of Abuja. The film follows Mira Akande, a 17-year-old girl who has spent her formative years inside a carefully constructed emotional bubble managed by her devoted, widowed father, Lanre. Ever since the tragic passing of Mira's mother, Lanre has structured his entire life—including working exclusively from home—around sheltering his daughter from the perceived dangers and temptations of the outside world. This rigid, isolated dynamic is upended when Joana, a free-spirited single mother, and her teenage son, Ebisinde, move into the neighboring house. As Mira experiences the spark of first love and a desire for autonomy through her budding relationship with Ebisinde, Lanre's overprotective instincts are pushed to their absolute limit. As Mira prepares to leave the nest for university, the family must navigate the painful transition of letting go, processing long-held grief, and allowing a new season of life to bloom.
