Golden Offer

After Chief Amadi demotes supervisor Clement for coming late while his wife is in labor, the bakery owner collapses from a heart attack and dies. Workers openly celebrate the harsh boss, but Richard, the chief's son, returns for burial. Pressed by his mother and sister Nneya, Richard first refuses the bakery, then reopens it after hearing neighbors mock his father. He cuts wages, fines lateness, dismisses Anna's objections and Ngozi's explanations, and blames Clement for losses. When Chuks begs leave for a hospital with severe abdominal pain, Richard makes him wait; Chuks collapses and dies of a ruptured appendix. Colleagues beat Richard, drag him to a bush, and burn his car, leaving him for dead. Maduka, a herbalist, finds Richard in the bush and nurses him, but Richard cannot remember his name. With his mother and sister reporting him missing, the police begin searching. The workers learn Chief Amadi had quietly paid the community's electricity and hospital bills, and their relief turns to guilt. Reopening the bakery and struggling under their own strict rules, they eventually listen to Anna, who persuades them to confess to the family. At the bush, police and suspects reconstruct the dumping; the men admit they never checked if Richard was breathing. Then Maduka tells Richard about an Akuta bakery owner lynched by employees, jolting his memory. Anna arrives at Maduka's home, and the reunion confirms that the Golden Offer bakery will not stay closed forever. Back with his mother and sister, Richard faces the bakery workers, who kneel to apologize for mocking his father. Kneeling as well, he asks their forgiveness for his harshness and for Chuks's death. After examining the books, he praises Ngozi and Clement's management and leaves the business in their care while he goes back to the city. Saying goodbye to Anna and Nneya, he watches the bakery stay open under the people he once dismissed.
