EARLY LIFE
Yemi Blaq, born Folayemi Olatunji on May 19, 1978, in Ondo State, Nigeria, to Olatunji Blaq. He was raised in Lagos as the youngest of five children. He attended Adeyemi Demonstration Secondary School in Ondo, Ondo State, where he served as the school's first Head Boy and began acting. He later pursued higher education at the University of Benin, graduating with a degree in Theatre Arts.
CAREER
Yemi Blaq commenced his professional career in the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, in 2005 after registering with the Actors Guild of Nigeria. His debut role was as Charles in the film '11 Days 11 Nights'. His breakthrough came with a lead role in the 2005 movie 'Lost to Lust', where he starred opposite Mercy Johnson. He has since appeared in over 100 films. Blaq diversified his career into filmmaking, contributing to the short film 'Night' (2017), and into music, releasing his debut single 'E Nor Dey Reach' in 2022. He also won the reality dance competition 'Celebrity Takes 2' in 2010.
PERSONAL LIFE
Yemi Blaq is married to Remi Ibinola Olatunji Blaq, a Nollywood scriptwriter and producer. They met on the set of the film 'Growing Up' and married in 2008. They have one son, Kay, born on October 5, 2007. Blaq is an advocate for women's financial independence and HIV/AIDS awareness. His personal interests include songwriting, poetry, reading, writing, listening to music, and watching movies.
