Biography
Merit Okonta, whose real name is Nnenna Nwabueze-Okonta, is a veteran Nigerian actress and filmmaker who achieved iconic status in Nollywood for her role as "Merit" in the groundbreaking 1992 blockbuster movie Living in Bondage. Her character, the tragic wife of Kenneth Okonkwo’s character (Andy Okeke), cemented her place as one of the founding matriarchs of contemporary Nigerian cinema. Following the massive success of Living in Bondage in 1992, she became a household name across Nigeria. Shortly after her breakthrough, she married Chief Francis Okonta and walked away from acting for over two decades to focus entirely on raising her family. She manages her own brand through her Facebook page, where she focuses on film production and movie mentoring.
