EARLY LIFE
Hailing from Orlu in Imo State, Mark Angel was born into an average Nigerian family. He pursued Medicine at Obafemi Awolowo University but had to withdraw due to financial constraints following his uncle’s death, who was his sponsor. Subsequently, he traveled to India to study cinematography, which laid the foundation for his career in entertainment.
CAREER
After returning to Nigeria, Mark Angel ventured into Nollywood as a movie editor and Director of Photography. Facing challenges in securing stable employment, he co-founded Mechanic Pictures in 2013 with his friend, Denilson Igwe. The “Mark Angel Comedy” series, launched on YouTube, gained massive popularity for its relatable content and the exceptional performances of young talents like Emmanuella and Success. Notably, the channel became the first African comedy channel to surpass one million subscribers on YouTube. Mark Angel has collaborated extensively with fellow Igbo individuals, notably his cousin Emmanuella Samuel, who has been a central figure in his comedy skits... Additionally, his niece, Success Madubuike, known as “Aunty Success,” has become a fan favorite... Under Mark Angel’s direction, Emmanuella has received several awards, including the “Princess of Comedy” and “Best New Comedienne” at the Afro Australia Music and Movie Awards in Sydney, Australia. The Mark Angel Comedy YouTube channel was the first Nigerian channel to reach one million subscribers, earning a plaque from YouTube in 2017.
