Keira Hewatch

EARLY LIFE

Keira Hewatch was born on November 8, 1985, in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. Raised primarily by her mother, Elizabeth Hewatch (a teacher with the police force who passed away in 2021), as a single parent. At age 11, she moved with her mother to Minna, Niger State. In 2005, the family relocated to Ghana, where Keira enrolled in the Graduate School of Management Studies to study Travel, Tourism, and Hospitality Management. She completed her certification but shifted focus to acting after discovering her passion. She spent time trying to break into entertainment in Ghana before returning to Nigeria in 2007 to pursue acting full-time. She has cited The Sound of Music as an early inspiration after watching it at age 5.

CAREER

Keira Hewatch entered the Nollywood industry around 2009. Her first notable role was in the television series Cross Roads produced by Emeka Ossai. In 2010, she starred as Police Chief Yetunde alongside Desmond Elliot in the sci-fi film Kajola (an early Nigerian futuristic project directed by Niyi Akinmolayan). Her breakthrough came in 2011 with the lead role of Keche in Two Brides and a Baby, alongside OC Ukeje, Stella Damasus, and others. She is also widely recognized for playing Peace Nwosu in the popular TV series Lekki Wives (multiple seasons). Awards and recognition: Best Breakout Performance at the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards in 2011; two nominations for the Golden Icon Academy Movie Awards (GIAMA), including Best New Actress. She is also a singer and songwriter.

PERSONAL LIFE

Keira was raised in a single-parent household and has spoken about her mother’s influential role. She is involved in philanthropy through ‘The Wings of Love Foundation,’ which supports widows, orphans, and youth empowerment initiatives to help them build better lives. She maintains a relatively private personal life while actively engaging fans through social media about her career and causes.
