EARLY LIFE
Sir Chris Akwarandu was born on 18 September in the 1960s outside Nigeria (he has stated he was born in Ireland) and later brought back to Nigeria. He was raised in a middle-class family. His father, Omelakaya Chris Akwarandu, worked as an industrial chemist at the Nigerian Cement Company. His mother was Lolo Anastasia (Erinma) Akwarandu, who passed away in November 2021. He has siblings, including a brother and sisters (he has spoken of keeping family private). He attended St. Patrick’s Secondary School in Emene, Enugu. Driven by a passion for the arts and communication, he proceeded to the University of Jos, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre/Communication (January 1985 – January 1989). He later returned for a Master of Arts in International Law and Diplomacy (1991–1993). He also holds postgraduate diplomas in television production and news writing/reporting, plus a UNICEF certification as a Master Trainer in Breastfeeding and Lactation Management Nutrition. In interviews he has referenced multiple degrees and early broadcasting training.

Broadcasting and Media: He began as a broadcaster after secondary school and has worked extensively with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). He continues to consult for NTA and hosts or is associated with a programme known as “The Sunday Show.” His background includes television production, news writing and reporting, voice-over work, and documentary production. He has described early training that covered theatre, television, radio, and film comprehensively.
