EARLY LIFE
Bongile Mantsai was born on 3 February 1982 in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa. He was raised in the Kayamandi township near Stellenbosch, completing high school at Kayamandi High School in 1998. He initially faced challenges pursuing higher education at Stellenbosch University due to language barriers but joined a physical theatre programme with language and movement classes, allowing participation in university productions and building his foundation in the arts.
CAREER
Bongile Mantsai began his professional career in the 2000s in theatre, performing and serving as musical director with the Baxter Theatre Centre and as artistic director of the Zabalaza Theatre Festival. Notable stage work includes lead in Mies Julie, Amaza, Marat/Sade, musical director for Karoo Moose and Ityala la Mawele, Woyzeck, and Elke Duim 'n Koning. He transitioned to film and television, gaining recognition for his roles in films such as; Inxeba: The Wound (2017), Knuckle City (2019), Scandal! (2020), Nkululeko, Gqeberha: The Empire, Blood Psalms, he played the role of Jozi Gold in iNumber Number: Jozi Gold.
