She tried IVF four times and had two miscarriages. Her pain makes her angry over small things like a bus fare. Her sister Amanda helps her and they talk about using a surrogate. But the cost is too high for a stranger. Zikora then asks Amanda for something big. What will this do to the family? Storyline
The story in the movie The Other Mother follows Zikora a 40 year old woman. She has loving husband Kwame and they are married eight years. But she cannot have a child after four failed IVF and two miscarriages. This makes her frustrated and angry over small things. Amanda her sister stops a bus fight. Kwame tells her to calm down. Zikora cries and Amanda comforts her. They talk about surrogacy. A friend had twins with one. At the center the surrogate wants too much money so they say no to stranger. Zikora asks Amanda to be surrogate. Amanda agrees out of love. Kwame is mad at first but agrees. Amanda gets pregnant. Zikora becomes controlling and treats her like only a carrier. She stops her from going out and controls all her actions. Amanda feels like hostage and her health fails. She shouts at nephew and wants to leave. Mother scolds Zikora and urges Amanda to stay. Kwame tries to fix it. Then Amanda gets very sick with pre eclampsia and placental abruption. They do emergency surgery at hospital. Zikora feels guilty and has nightmare they both die. But it succeeds. Healthy baby boy is born. Amanda is ok. At end sisters hold hands. Bad feelings gone. Bond stronger by the baby gift.
