Mrs. Bolatito Johnson, a wealthy and embittered paraplegic, has fired fifteen caregivers in eight months, her paranoia rooted in a belief that everyone is after her fortune. Hired despite no experience, he moves into the boys’ quarters and endures her sharp dismissals with quiet patience, slowly earning her reluctant attention. Over weeks, his small acts—a surprise birthday cake, coaxing her into hydrotherapy, sharing quiet meals—bring an unexpected closeness. The title of The Carer ceases to feel fraudulent, and Mrs. Johnson slowly lets down her guard. But Frank’s friends Daniel and Chika, who helped him get the job, demand a cut of his salary; when he refuses, Daniel exposes the fraud, and Frank is arrested. The mansion descends into bitter silence, the betrayal cutting deeper than any previous abandonment. At the police station, Frank’s mother and ex-wife Jessica plead with Mrs. Johnson to drop the charges.
