Bolanle runs a clothing business and carries a twelve-year relationship with Jide, unemployed so long that his debts from a failed Ponzi scheme press hard. She sells her car for eight point five million naira to clear his debts. She also asks her best friend Fola to place Jide in a head-of-marketing role at Tiwa's company without an interview. Jide's mother Abike has always doted on Bolanle, calling her the family's guardian angel for funding his sister's education and keeping their household running. Once Jide starts work he grows distant and begins an affair with Tiwa, then ends the relationship with cruelty, telling Bolanle he has lost attraction and criticizing her appearance. Bolanle confronts him at his apartment and seeks solace from Abike, who erupts in fury at her son's ingratitude and declares Bolanle the only woman she will ever accept. The rupture spreads to Jide's friends as Demola abandons the friendship over the mistreatment and Peter stays loyal to Jide. Fola guides Bolanle through a mirror affirmation ritual that steadies her, and she resolves to move forward. Tiwa fires Jide during his probation for incompetence and lack of integrity, revealing he was hired solely on referral. Abike delivers a final scathing rebuke, invoking the proverb about never biting the hands that feed you. Humbled and jobless, Jide meets Bolanle at a café and pours out a sincere apology, admitting he lost his way. He then proposes marriage with a ring and vows to make her the happiest woman. Bolanle accepts the ring and lets Jide slide it onto her finger, but she immediately retracts her acceptance with cold resolve. She declares she only said yes to satisfy her ego, announces she is breaking up with him, and states he does not deserve her. She walks away, leaving Jide stunned and alone at the table as the film ends on her definitive rejection.
