Neria

Neria and her husband, Patrick, live a happy, comfortable, and modern life in Warren Park, a suburb of Harare, where they run an equal partnership. Through hard work and resourcefulness, they build a secure life for themselves and their two young children. Tragically, Patrick is killed in a sudden car accident. While Neria grieves, Patrick’s older brother, Phineas, descends upon her life. Exploiting traditional Shona inheritance customs for his own material gain, Phineas declares himself the "protector" of the family. He immediately steals Patrick's car, bank book, clothes, and house. When Phineas takes his greed a step further by seizing Neria's children, her passivity shatters. With the moral backing of her brother Jethro and her friend Connie, Neria takes the radical step of taking her brother-in-law to court, challenging a deeply entrenched patriarchal system to reclaim her life.
