Storyline

In "My Mother's Daughter," Lily's mother is very cruel. She makes Lily walk to school and ignores her when Lily gets her first period. At school, a group of girls notice Lily is lonely and offer to help her. After her mother again ignores her, this time about her birthday, Lily finally agrees to go out with these new friends. They take her to a club, where she has fun and even gets some money. The girls then tell Lily she needs a boyfriend to buy her nice things. Her new boyfriend buys her a phone for her birthday. Lily's neighbor, Mimi, is worried these friends are a bad influence. Mimi's mother tries to talk to Lily's mother, but she is told to mind her own business. Later, Lily becomes pregnant. Her boyfriend rejects her, and her friends suggest she get an abortion. Lily goes through with the abortion, but it causes severe bleeding. She faints at school and is rushed to the hospital. The doctors say her reproductive system is badly damaged. Finally, Lily's mother breaks down and cries. She explains that she treated Lily so harshly because she wanted to make her tough. She did not want Lily to go through the same struggles she had in her own life. It is a moment of deep regret. In the end, Lily's bad friends are expelled from the school. The movie closes with the tragic consequences of a mother's harsh love and a daughter's search for acceptance.
