Heaven Must Wait

In the movie Heaven Must Wait, Dorcas is a strict and hardworking school teacher. One morning, wealthy businessman Nduka splashes mud on her while driving. She angrily refuses the money he offers. At school, Dorcas struggles with too much work and unpaid salary. The principal does not help her. Nduka's daughter Angel is a student in Dorcas's class. Angel is rude and distant because she feels her father abandoned her after her mother died. Nduka offers Dorcas a high salary of 200,000 Naira per month to become Angel's private home tutor. She accepts. Slowly, Dorcas bonds with Angel. She takes the girl shopping and listens to her pain. Angel starts to improve. Nduka falls in love with Dorcas for her kindness and strength. He gives her gifts and they start a romantic relationship. For the first time, Nduka, Dorcas and Angel feel like a real happy family. Then tragedy strikes. While out with Nduka, Dorcas collapses. Doctors discover she has end-stage cancer and only has about one month to live. Dorcas already knew her condition but hid it so she could enjoy her final days in love. Before she dies, she makes Nduka promise to always be there for Angel. After Dorcas passes away, her school organizes a candlelight memorial. In the final scene, Nduka and Angel stand at her grave placing flowers. Nduka hugs his daughter, showing he will keep his promise.
