In Heart and Chains, Abel lives in a dense Nigerian neighborhood, scraping by on odd jobs he does with his sister, while his girlfriend Teni and his devoted friend Juliet support him. When Femi, an old friend, promises a job that only needs a good appearance, Abel takes it. That night, Femi and Abel approach a woman in a parking lot, supposedly to introduce Femi, but Femi chloroforms her and they drive off. Abel is horrified to realize they have kidnapped Bella, the daughter of billionaire Dike Thompson. Femi reveals the operation is a kidnapping for a 50 million naira ransom, making Abel an accomplice. Bella is bound and terrified, and Abel, sick with guilt, brings her food and sanitary pads, and a fragile bond forms. Bella tells him about her late mother, and Abel opens up about his debts and his father's death. Meanwhile, Dike receives a demand for 500 million, and Bella's best friend Kelly, motivated by jealousy, is secretly behind the scheme. Bella attempts an escape, striking Abel on the head, but the attempt fails. As the days pass, Abel's conscience wins and he decides to help her escape, knowing Femi would kill him for betrayal. He stages an attack on himself to deflect suspicion, then helps Bella flee. Bella returns home unconscious, and when she wakes, she claims to have lost all memory, convincing everyone, including Kelly. The amnesia is a ruse to lure the kidnappers out. Femi and Kelly, enraged by the escape, plan a second kidnapping with a higher ransom. Abel secretly warns Bella's father, who alerts the police. When masked intruders break into the house, the police are already waiting, and Kelly and her crew are arrested. Bella drops the act, revealing her true memory, and pleads with the officers to release Abel, insisting he saved her and only acted under threats to his sister. Abel is freed, and Dike, grateful, offers him a position at DT Energies.
