Double The Love

Dozie works as a software developer under the watchful eye of his older sister Ada, who appointed herself his protector after their parents died early. Ada is married to Patrick but years of infertility have curdled into anxiety she channels into policing Dozie's romantic life and she chased away his last girlfriend Loveth, who had practically moved in. When Dozie meets Ivie by chance on a Lagos street their chemistry is instant and a relationship begins. In Double The Love Ada's interference intensifies immediately by moving into Dozie's home during Patrick's business trips and she critiques Ivie's cooking while mocking her presence at every shared meal. She accuses Ivie of fornicating with Dozie and frames her hostility as familial duty. Dozie, torn between loyalty to his sister and love for Ivie, fails to set boundaries and frustrates both women. Ivie, a PR consultant who survived a traumatic childhood with an aggressive mother, initially absorbs the abuse but eventually snaps. A violent kitchen confrontation leaves Ivie fleeing the house and Dozie, paralyzed by guilt and fear of betraying Ada, does not stop her. Meanwhile Patrick confronts Ada about projecting their childlessness onto Dozie and demands she face the real source of her rage. Ivie confides in a friend that Dozie's silence during the fight mirrored her father's abandonment of her mother, a wound she vowed never to repeat. Dozie is confronted by his friend Tayo and realizes his passivity has made him complicit in Ada's toxicity. Ada, cornered by Patrick and her own conscience, admits she smothered Dozie because she was terrified of being unneeded after years of failed pregnancies. She visits Ivie unannounced and delivers a tearful apology that acknowledges her cruelty and its roots in unresolved grief. Dozie separately tracks Ivie down at their first meeting spot on the Lagos street and owns his cowardice while pledging to choose her openly before anyone else.
