After 25

In After 25 the film opens with a woman in green storming a wedding ceremony and snatching the bridal bouquet while shouting at the groom. The scene shifts to Oby praying aggressively with her sister Sochi in their bedroom binding enemies who plot against her marriage. Wealthy businessman Ikenna tells friends on a patio that he will complete three weddings in two weeks and his daughter Chiney arrives to greet him affectionately. Oby prepares for the introduction ceremony with a friend discussing bridal wear and her business but Sochi warns her of a family curse that says women in their lineage never marry after twenty-five. Oby furiously ejects Sochi from the house declaring that anyone against her marriage should perish. Ikenna's delegation arrives for the Ekwu-aka at Oby's family compound where Chief Osita expresses surprise at the groom's age. The mood sours when Chief Ndoka the family patriarch storms in and forbids the marriage revealing the curse to Ikenna's people and Oby's mother collapses in despair. Ikenna reassures Oby over the phone and insists he will pay any bride price. His own aunt refuses to support the union citing the same curse and fearing for her future grandchildren. Ikenna argues that his Christian faith and education render such beliefs irrelevant yet the aunt stands firm. Ikenna's daughter Ego is revealed to be under blackmail by a Lagos man threatening to leak her nude photos. Oby intervenes by orchestrating the culprit's violent apprehension by soldiers. Ikenna confronts Ego for hiding the blackmail. His aunt suffers a breakdown feeling exposed by recent events. Oby goes missing and prompts a frantic search. Ikenna visits her in a hotel room where he apologizes for his family's behavior and vows to triple the bride price list to prove his capability. He comforts her insecurities about age and childbearing noting he already has three children and needs no more and confirms the wedding in seven days.
