Biography

EARLY LIFE

Robert Agengo was born on 22 April 1986 in Kibera, Nairobi. He attended Ayany Primary School from 1993 to 2000, where he developed an early interest in acting. In the 1990s he appeared on television in a school play titled Mistake, which was broadcast on the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC). He completed secondary education at Ngelani High School in 2004, where he was actively involved in the Drama Club. During this period he also trained as an amateur boxer at a local neighbourhood gym. After high school he briefly considered joining the army but pursued acting instead.

CAREER

Agengo began performing seriously after high school. He joined Jicho Four Productions, travelling around the country performing set-book plays in schools. In 2005 he left to focus on main-stage work at the Kenya National Theatre, Alliance Française in Nairobi, and the former Phoenix Players. He started in film and television largely as an extra in local productions such as Makutano Junction, Shika Pata Potea, Krazy Kenyans, and Changes. His breakthrough came with recurring and leading roles in popular Kenyan series including Mali, Kona (2013), Sue na Jonnie, Warembo Salon, Skandals Kibao, and Zora (as Fella). International and high-profile credits include: Lost in Africa (2010, also known as Kidnappet) The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (2019) 40 Sticks (2020, Netflix thriller; role of Pablo) Other films: Uradi (2020), Adisa (2021), The Dog (2024) Recent and ongoing television work includes Qware (Maisha Magic Plus, 2025), Adam to Eve (Showmax), and Lulu. He has also appeared in Taking the Flak (BBC). Over more than two decades in the industry, Agengo has spoken about starting with very low pay as an extra (once earning as little as KSh 700) and gradually building a substantial body of work across stage, television, and film.

PERSONAL LIFE

Agengo has been open about his family situation. In a 2026 interview he stated that he is a father of six children with five different women and that he has no intention of marrying. He has tattooed the names of his children on his arm as a sign of his love for them and has said he never planned to have children but loves them all deeply. Two of the children share the same mother. He has described an unconventional domestic arrangement that he finds more sustainable for his lifestyle, noting that constant proximity can sometimes lead to conflict. He has also spoken about earlier attempts to support himself and his dependents through various jobs while establishing his acting career.

Robert Agengo is regarded as one of the more consistent and versatile actors of his generation in Kenyan and East African screen industries. He continues to act, take on casting responsibilities, and maintain a public presence while balancing fatherhood. His journey from Kibera and early theatre work to international Netflix credits is frequently cited as an example of persistence in the local industry.
