EARLY LIFE

Arabron Odongo Osanya-Nyyneque was born in March 1963 in New York City to a Kenyan father (from Luo Nyanza, who worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and later with the United Nations and African Union) and a Black American mother from Brooklyn. He is the second-born of a set of twins and has two younger brothers who are also twins. His formative years were spent in the United States, with additional time living in France and Switzerland due to his father’s diplomatic career, before the family eventually settled in Kenya. From a young age he showed a strong affinity for acting (and sports), though he also tried singing and musical instruments. Relocating to Kenya made finding acting opportunities more challenging initially, but he began performing plays at the French Cultural Centre (now Alliance Française).

CAREER

Arabron Osanya-Nyyneque is a veteran Kenyan actor and highly regarded voiceover artist with a career spanning nearly four decades. Acting: He is best known for his role as Jack Mwamba in the popular Citizen TV series Mother-in-Law (he left after about four years). Other notable screen credits include the strict and intimidating Abasi in Kona, Daudi Mwakazi in Kina, Amigo in the film 40 Sticks (2020), Eli-Ra in the animated TeraStorm (2022), roles in Faithless (including Pastor Musa references in interviews), MTV Shuga Mashariki (Dean Muiga), Villains in the Metropolis, Prayer for the Departed, Second Family, Fatherhood, Gun Theory, Six, and minor appearances in Wingu la Moto and Selina. He began stage work in the late 1980s (first on-stage experience around 1987) and has continued balancing theatre and screen roles. Voiceover: His voicing career started in earnest in 1990 with radio and television advertisements. By 2000 he was able to sustain himself primarily through voice work. He has voiced commercials for major corporations (beverages, banks, airlines, pharmaceuticals, telephone networks, etc.), documentaries (including for Equity Bank, GCTV/CCTV China, Water and Sanitation programs, and The Citizen’s Report), UNICEF animated series (Uncle), the Wizard in Kenya’s first 3D animation TeraStorm, the Narrator in “The Mysteries of Sauti and Jabali,” audiobooks (e.g., Part 2 of From The Village To The City / Gööka series for Mystery Publishers), Safaricom campaigns, political presentations (Jubilee Party launch), and events such as Brahma Kumaris. He is noted for commanding significant fees for short commercial voiceovers. He continues active work in both acting and voiceover, including recent projects with Mystery Publishers and contemporary Kenyan series.

PERSONAL LIFE

He is a family man and has spoken of prioritising his children. He has been candid about earlier struggles in his marriage, describing it as “extremely volatile” for many years due to a lack of paternal guidance on relationships. He credits personal behavioural changes—observing and controlling his own reactions and atmosphere at home—with transforming the marriage into a more stable and harmonious partnership. He maintains a relatively low public profile regarding private family details while emphasising authenticity and personal growth. His mother has passed away.

Arabron is recognised as a seasoned professional who bridges multicultural heritage with long-term contributions to Kenyan television, film, animation, and commercial voice work. He has spoken about maintaining personal boundaries in roles (e.g., reluctance toward certain intimate or gay character portrayals for reasons of authenticity and understanding), the pressures of public recognition, and the importance of family prioritisation. He remains active as both a screen actor and one of Kenya’s established voice talents while keeping a grounded public presence.
